Phenylethyl Resorcinol, formula C14H14O2, chemically called 4- (-1-phenylethyl) -1,3-phenylphenol, is a white crystalline solid with low odor.It is a phenolic compound made from mesodiphenol.Solubility in ethanol, propylene alcohol, butanadiol, and pentadiol was 265 mg/L in water at 25℃.Phenyl ethyl interphenol is an effective whitening component, has a strong antioxidant effect, strongly inhibit the activity of tyrosinase and, in turn, reduces the production of melanin.Skin tests showed that 0.5% concentrations of 377 were more effective than 1% concentrations of trameric acid under conditions not exposed to light.Special attention is paid as a bright white agent in skin care products because it suppresses tyrosase activity and thus the conversion of tyrosine to levodopa.Tyrosine is a substrate of tyrosase and is oxidized to levodopa in melanin synthesis; therefore, substances that can inhibit tyrosinase lead to skin whitening.
